Farm to Jar Products

Hopscotch’s canned goods are crafted from farm-grown fruit, veggies & herbs. By maintaining soil health, growing heirloom varieties, and harvesting crops at peak ripeness and quality, I ensure my products are both nutritious and highlight the flavor of the vegetables I grow. I also tend to focus on creating distinctive combinations or putting a farmstead twist on old favorites.  Plus each small batch is hand-packed and made with love.

“Grown Here, Made Here, and Sold Here” | Localizing more parts of the processing chain helps more money stays in the local community and reduces food transportation miles. I grow most of the fruits and vegetables I use in my pickles and preserves, occasionally supplementing with goodies from other Jefferson County producers (thank you Finnriver, Kodama, Chimalow, and Red Dog!). And by preserving the harvest during the abundance of the summer, we can enjoy locally-produced food year-round. As opposed to fermented goods that require refrigeration, my pickles and relish are shelf-stable until opened.

Reuse before Recycling | We've all heard it - reduce, reuse, then recycle. But we often don't think through how this can apply to our everyday choices. Canning jars can be reused many, many times before they eventually become too weak to use, or they crack, at which point they can be recycled. So why not get the extra use out of them before throwing them in the recycle bin? Feel free to return your clean, empty jars to Hopscotch at the farmers market. While reusing jars is more difficult and time consuming than purchasing new jars as there are extra steps involved in washing and sanitizing them, this process is another way to reduce Hopscotch’s burden on the earth, and reduce my reliance on outside, raw material inputs (like glass), and I am happy to put in the extra effort to make this happen.

One More Note | While my farm is not certified organic, I use organic and regenerative growing practices. I also ensure that any ingredients that cannot be grown locally, such as sugar, vinegar, and some spices, are sourced from responsible, certified organic suppliers.
